Book Review for Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent by Veronica Roth
Release date: May 3rd, 2011
Publisher: Harper Collins
Pages: 487

Summary: 5 Factions, and when you turn sixteen, you get tested. Whatever faction the test says you are, you choose to leave or stay with your family in the faction that you have lived in for your whole life.
For sixteen year old Beatrice Prior, she had never felt that she fit into her faction so when it comes to the test, she is told that she is a divergent and if she ever told anyone, then she could suffer severe consequences such as death. When Beatrice is told to choose a faction to go to, she picks Dauntless and once getting there, she realises that the society that they all live in isn't as perfect as she thought it was.

Thoughts: Divergent is one of those books that you cannot put down. It is so drawing and makes you want to never put it down and it just filled me with adrenaline and I was speeding through the pages like I was racing to the finish line! I was stuck to my chair 24/7 until I finished the book.
When I first picked up this book I was thinking, oh well this is going to be kind of like the Hunger Games and everyone was comparing the two and I thought that everything was going to be close to the same, like Katniss and Beatrice both having to go to places and then compete but when I actually started to read the book, they were both completely different and I don't get how people started to compare the two, especially if they have read the book because with everyone saying, they are so alike and, Divergent is kind of a copy of The Hunger Games. Well, I have one thing to say and it is, DIVERGENT IS NOTHING AND I MEAN COMPLETELY NOTHING LIKE THE HUNGER GAMES!!! I don't understand how people compared these books.
Veronica Roth just completes and makes this book because she just writes Divergent so well and makes the whole book come to life like some other authors do but she does it so super well. She drew me into the books and made me really attached to the book and if you saw me when I was reading it, you wouldn't see my face out of that book until I was finished the last word of the last page.
I would give Divergent by Veronica Roth an obvious 5/5 stars because she just made this book so good and couldn't have been any better. I wouldn't change anything and she just made me and I am pretty sure everyone else who has read this book would agree with me that this book was amazing and well even more then amazing. I am super excited to Insurgent and then the third book in the series!

Book Review for The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg

The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg
Release Date: February 21st, 2012
Publisher: Penguin Young Readers Group
Pages: 375

Summary: Brie's life comes to a tragic end when she dies of a broken heart after her boyfriend tells her that he doesn't love her anymore. Her heart breaks and that is the end of sixteen year old Brie's life.
The only thing is now she is dead, she is living in the afterlife at a cafe and soon returns to her birth town, Half Moon Bay with guidance from a boy named, Patrick. Soon, Brie's family secrets start to unravel, her best friend was keeping a HUGE secret from Brie about her, now ex-boyfriend Jacob and the truth about his "heart breaking" betrayal. Last of all, there is Patrick who is Brie's guide around her new way of life as a Lost Soul and he might just hold the key to her life after death.
With Patrick's help, Brie must pass five certain tests before she can move on wit her new life but the question is, how does she begin, and when will her heart mend from the unforgettable breaking?

Thoughts: The Catastrophic History of You and Me is probably one of the saddest and most enjoyable book I have read this year. I have so many mixed emotions for it. This book made me cry and laugh but still have such an enjoyable time reading it. Jess Rothenberg made this book just completely unpredictable with the turns it takes and a really fun, cute read that I was not able to put down.
Another reason that I loved it was because Jess Rothenberg does a fantastic job in making the death of Brie both sad but with just the right amount of humour. Her writing was amazing and from what I heard about it before I even read this book was that she is a fabulous writer and just makes the books just come to life which is exactly what I think and I would pick up one of her books in an instant. She is one of my favourite debut authors of 2012 and I am super excited to read her future books!
I think that Jess Rothenberg did an absolutely amazing job with the protagonist, Brie. She was so quirky and fun and adorable. Rothenberg did an awesome job with making Brie have the voice and really act like a 16 year old girl. You could tell how she was a really good teenage character because she said OMG and LOL. She also had hilarious comebacks to Patrick, even though some of them didn't make that much sense. It was the whole charade of being a teenager. It was very believable.
Rothenberg's style of writing was different then others but really fun and made The Catastrophic History of You and Me an even better book. It tied the whole thing together.
I would rate The Catastrophic History of You and Me a 5/5 stars because I LOVE it SO much and just made me cry but then burst out laughing and I was unable to put it down until I finished the very last page.

Book Review for Timepiece by Myra McEntire

Timepiece by Myra McEntire
Release date: June 12th, 2012

Pages: 336

( Summary Contains some Spoilers)

Summary: A threat from the past can destroy the future...

Kaleb Ballard's life is interrupted when Jack Landers, the man who tried to murder his father and use many people to travel through time. He keeps time slips and attacks and then just disappears as quickly. Kaleb has never been able to see time travellers and ripples of time, but now he and the others that couldn't can. They all think, are their powers expanding or is something very wrong.

The Hourglass has now issued an ultimate. Either they find Jack and the research that he stole on the time gene or the future will be destroyed.
Now Kaleb, Emerson and Michael and the other Hourglass recruits have to us their supernatural powers to find Jack before it is to late.
But where do the start? And when? And even if they succeed, it may not be enough...

Thoughts: Hourglass is a fantastic series and I was very excited to get this book. Myra McEntire does another great job with the aspect of time travel and incorporating it with the book.If you liked Hourglass, you will love Timepiece. It is a bit darker but still Amazing! The book is totally ACTION AND ADVENTURE PACKED. Also, it is a bit more intense then Hourglass and makes the book even better.
One thing that was different in this book was that Kaleb was the narrator and he has a bit of a darker personality which is what made the book a bit more intense and dark. I did miss Emerson's fun and quirky personality. Kaleb made the book more of an exhilerating, dark and more intense kind of book which was still really good but I know that many people missed Emerson and even if Myra McEntire made the book switch protagonist between chapters so that we got the Emerson we all love and the dark and loveable parts of Kaleb.
Other than that, yet again Myra McEntire does an amazing job of writing Timepiece and having the whole time travel even though our protagonist isn't Emerson anymore but we still have all the fun with the powers and exciting things that we had in Hourglass and even have a few new and/or more primary characters that steal your heart.
I would give Timepiece by Myra McEntire a 4/5 stars because it was another faboulous book but there was just a little peice missing for me which, could have been Emerson because you couldn't see what was going on in her head but other than that a job well done by Myra McEntire and I am very excited for the next book, Infinityglass!

Book Review for Hourglass by Myra McEntire

Hourglass by Myra McEntire
Release Date: June 14th, 2011
Publisher: Egmont USA
Pages: 387

Summary: Seventeen year old Emerson Cole's life is all about seeing what isn't there, Southern Belles, soldiers that are long forgotten and a haunting Jazz Trio that comes and goes in an instant. With ghosts in her way at every second, she just wants it all to stop so she can be just as normal as everyone else. Emerson has tried everything but the visions keep coming back. So, when her well meaning brother brings in a consultant form a secretive organisation called the Hourglass. Emerson is willing to try this one last consultant but meeting her consultant, Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may even change her past.
Who is this dark mysterious guy who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room when they are together? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

Thoughts: Hourglass is an original read with a twist of time travel. Myra McEntire has brought the time travel idea back to life and the way that she incorporated the time travel aspect was just perfect because she made it work with the whole aspect of the book. Myra McEntire didn't just throw the idea in there like, "Hey! I can time travel!" She really made it all work.
Hourglass has everything that you would ever want in a YA fiction book, humour, romance, action and suspense. Myra McEntire fits this all into one book and executed it VERY well. It couldn't have been any better. It was a very good read I wasn't even able to put it down.
I think that Myra McEntire did a fabulous job with the protagonist, Emerson. Readers will love her fun and exciting personality. I know I did. She made you laugh, smile and scream with joy but at other times she made you cry and really feel her pain like the author probably intended.
I know I say this a lot but I think that the cover is so pretty. At first, it looks like a girl walking and having her hair blown into the wall but what is really happening is that she is walking down that wall and being sucked into the floor. I also think that Emerson is just so beautiful on the front and personally, I just love her dress!
Anyway, one of the many things that I enjoyed in Hourglass was when you hear Emerson referring to herself as "crazy" because of her childhood memories of the mental institution. When I first read that Emerson though she was crazy I was thinking that it is such a great idea because when you read about mental issues in books, you don't hear crazy. So I thought that was a very cool and original idea.
I would give Hourglass by Myra McEntire 5/5 stars because it was just such a good book inside out. There was no bad part it was just all around AMAZING!

Book Review for Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Release Date: November 15th, 2011
Publisher: Harper/HarperCollins
Pages: 338

Summary: My Touch is Lethal. My Touch is Power.
Juliette hasn't touched anyone in 264 days. The last time she did, someone died and the accident caused The Reestablishment locked her up. No one knows that Juliette's touch is lethal and with diseases destroying the population no one really needs to pay attention to her.
The Reestablishment said the only way to fix things was to lock her up in a cell with no one, until the day when a mysterious boy is put into her cell. Juliette now wonders if she is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe, she is exactly what The Reestablishment needs right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a Weapon. Or be a Warrior.
Thoughts:  I think that Shatter Me is an exhilarating and unique read. The whole premise of the story, with Juliette's lethal touch and then all the obstacles if The Reestablishment trying to use her gift as a weapon to run the world basically. Then, there is also the boy who comes in and steals everyones heart until one part where I got mad at him but then it went back to the, OMG, her is amazing time!!!
I think that Tahereh Mafi did an amazing job with writing the whole story come to life. The way she made you feel what was happening and she makes you start ripping your hair out at points in the book.
I liked the protagonist, Juliette. She has such a funny and yet serious personality and is so brave and you can just see it in the way that she speaks and thinks. Her thoughts are just super fun to read because they can make you laugh, cry, smile and scream in fear and in joy. I think that when you have a great protagonist, it just makes the story better because you're just so excited to read what the person says because you know it will be good.
Now, I know that covers aren't a huge thing to judge books on, (even though I do sometimes), this cover is pretty wicked, don't you think? I love the silver and when you actually have the book, you see the way that the cover glitters in the light and Juliette, on the cover, is just beautiful. She ties the cover together. One of the things that really brought me to read this book is the words at the top of the cover, My Touch is Lethal. My Touch is Power. How cool is that sentence? I would say that it was a great idea to put that on the cover because it is just so interesting and really makes you want to see what the words really mean.
I would give Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi a 5/5 stars because it was just an all around amazing book. They're aren't words to describe how good it was and I am SUPER EXCITED for the next book in the series, Unravel Me.

Book Review for Eve by Anna Carey

Eve by Anna Carey
Release Date: October 4th, 2011
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 336

Summary: It's 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus that had a vaccine that was intended to protect against this virus wiped out most of the earth's population. The night before eighteen year old Eve's graduation, she figured out her school's dark secret and Eve's horrible fate that awaits her after graduating.
Leaving the school, Eve sets off on a journey to search for a place that she can survive. Along the way, she encounters a boy, Caleb. Her school always told her to beware of the boys and meeting Caleb changes everything. He is this rough and rebellious boy who is living in the wild. Caleb slowly earns Eve's trust and helps her on her mission to reach a safe place. When the soliders start hunting for Eve, she must choose between true love and her life.

Thoughts:  Eve was a wonderful book with such an original plot line, especially with the whole idea of everything and based in the future it is a dystopian novel and was written and created in the best way possible.  I loved the whole idea of the world being whipped out, (starters by Lissa Price.html), and then you find out some amazing secrets that are unbearable and should never happen and also when Eve sets out on her adventure to find her way and get out of the school before it is too late. How cool does that sound, I find it a complete hook when authors say, before it is too late! Doesn’t it just sound exhilarating! I love the whole suspense of it all which makes you burst if you can’t figure out what happens and when books leave you hanging so you get over excited for the sequel, which that sequel for Eve is called Once and I am super excited because Eve ended with a complete cliff hanger which I hate but I also LOVE!
I think that Anna Carey did an amazing job with writing this book and making the whole story come to life because she made you feel the suspense and mystery in her words and made you want more. She made me personally not be able to get Eve out of my face and the whole story and plot and just everything was completely seductive.
I think that the cover for Eve is just amazing and looks so beautiful. The green and blue just complement each other perfectly and make the cover so beautiful and probably one of the best covers I have seen in a while.
I would give Eve by Anna Carey a 4/5 stars because it was really good and I am so excited for the sequel, Once and that cover is SUPER pretty as while.

Book Review for Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler
Release Date: June 1st, 2009
Publisher: Litle Brown Books for Young Readers
Pages: 290

Summary: "Don’t worry, Anna. I’ll tell her, okay? Just let me think about the best way to do it."
"Okay."
"Promise me? Promise you won’t say anything?"
"Don’t worry.” I laughed. “It’s our secret, right?"
According to Anna`s best friend, Frankie, going on a vacation for twenty days to Zanzibar Bay is the perfect time to have a summer fling and with Frankie`s plan to meet one boy every day, she thinks that they have a pretty big chance that Anna will find her first summer romance. Anna feels that the right thing to do is go along with Frankie`s game but there is something that Anna hasn`t told Frankie, Anna has already had her romance and it was with Frankie`s older brother, Matt, just before his tragic death one year ago.
Thoughts:  I read Twenty Boy Summer while I was on vacation in Florida and I thought that this was the perfect summer read and a really good read for vacation. It made me have mixed emotions and I cried and laughed and was jumping up and down screaming with excitement! They whole story was just completely heartbreaking and made my heart swell.
I felt so bad for Anna the whole time because having someone important die and then just everything that happens. Think about having someone ripped away from you, how much does it hurt, it`s unbearable. You feel like everything has just fallen apart and that you`re paralyzed. Your body just doesn`t work and your heart feels shattered.
I think it can be hard to write a sad book well and if it isn`t written right, the story just doesn`t feel the same. It is like a part of the book is not there but Sarah Ockler did a fantastic job in making Twenty Boy Summer a heartfelt, sad romance book. Ms. Ockler just wrote this book in such a special kind of way that is unforgettable and that I haven`t been able to experience enough.
Twenty Boy Summer is a great read that will make your heart ache and make you cry out to the world, WHY!!!! I would give Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler a 5 out of 5 stars because well because it was so amazing and an unforgettable read that will be shared with millions.

Book Review for Born at Midnight by C.C Hunter

Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter
Release date: March 29th, 2011
Publisher: St. Martin`s Press
Pages: 398

Summary: One night Kylie Galen is at the wrong party at the wrong time. Her parents decide to then send her to Shadow Falls-a camp for troubled teams. Only, when Kylie gets there she discovers that this camp isn't for troubled teens but for people who are different, and not then normal different. These people are vampires, werewolfs, shapeshifters, witches and fairies that train. All of these people are learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world once more.
Kylie has never normal, but she surely thinks that she is not a paranormal freak either. Or does she? Everyone is now telling Kylie that she belongs and insists that she stays. Now, at the camp, Kylie meets Derek and and Lucas. Derek is a half-fae who's determined to be Kylie's boyfriend and Lucas is a smokin' hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both these boys are  irresistible and have a powerful hold on her heart.
Even though Kylie feels uncertain about this whole, supernatural thing, one thing is coming clear, Shadow Falls is where she belongs.

Thoughts: Born at Midnight is an exciting, adrenaline rush kind of book. You know when you are like, stuck in something? Well, thats how I felt with this book. I mean that whole aspect is just amazing because have you ever read a book or many other books that include allmost every kind of supernatural? Werewolfs, Vampires, Shapeshifters, Faries, Half Fae, Healers and so many more. Even the main character Kylie, she doesn't even know what she is which is one of the whole parts of the story, thrying to figure out what Kylie is.
Another big thing about Born at Midnight is the controversy between the two guys that both are competely in LOVE with Kylie. Their names are Derek and Lucas. They have a huge love triangle just like in Twilight. Derek likes Kylie and Kylie likes Derek and Kylie likes Lucas and Lucas likes Kylie but Derek and Lucas competely despise eachother.
I love how C.C Hunter gets everything to play out so well in the book and makes everything go well and flow throughout the whole book. Her writing just makes everything right in the book because if the writing was just plain old horrible, then I think Born at Midnight would be half as good as it actually is.
I would say that Born at Midnight is a fantastic read and I would read the rest of the series NOW! Actually, I have already finished the next two and am waiting for the fourth and I think last book in the series. The books are so good and I want everyone to read them and then just tell me what you think.
I gave Born at Midnight a 5/5 stars becasue it was just so, so good and I couldn't get my face out of it. So, great read and pretty easy as well. Have a Wonderful Day For Reading!
